Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging London 2018 returns to London Olympia tomorrow on the 12th and 13th of September and promises to offer plenty of new ideas, materials and packaging concepts to inspire professionals working in the retail industry.
Sustainability will be top of the agenda, with many of the 180 leading suppliers at the show set to launch brand new innovations addressing the issue of plastics in packaging. For instance, Futamura is set to showcase its latest product applications which use renewable and 100% home compostable NatureFlex™ films, including products that featured on the first ever plastic-free aisle at Dutch Supermarket Ekoplaza.
Aegg Creative Packaging is launching a brand-new range of fully recyclable glassware food pots. The reusable clear pots provide great aesthetics as well as on-shelf orientation making them ideal for premium seafood starters and desserts.
For those looking for plastic alternatives, the Alexir Partnership will debut its new carton and film, as well as its new Ovenable Halopack.
THOUGHT FOR FOOD
Also aimed at the food and beverage industry, The Sherwood Group has developed Puracoat™ a food barrier packaging solution which offers food manufacturers, retailers and brand owners an environmentally friendly solution to conventional plastic, PE and other forms of barrier control.
IPL Packaging will reveal its Emmy’s Sterling Iridium and Sterling Iridium packs. Following the successful launch of its custom-made luxury Cabernet Sauvignon Iridium from Sterling Vineyards, which was gifted to award winners at the Emmy Awards Governor’s Ball after-party in 2017, IPL has created a similar packaging solution for Iridium to use at retail. The pack has a similar appearance and visual impact, yet is appropriately tailored to the retail market and is more cost-effective to produce.
BOOZE & BEAUTY
Croxsons will be showing its comprehensive collection of glass packaging solutions for the food and beverage sectors, including a wide range of premium spirit bottles and luxury closures. And, also aimed at the luxury drinks market, DS Smith Packaging Consumer will be unveiling its new packaging for the GlenAllachie Scotch Whisky range, which recreates the natural look and feel of rocks on the packaging itself.
Zanders, meanwhile, will display its range of diverse packaging solutions for the cosmetic industry, including the high-gloss Chromolux, which ensures the perfect presentation of premium packaging for cosmetics and luxury consumer goods.
Also, for the beauty and cosmetic market, Vetroplas Packaging will present its new collection of aluminium cans and closures for perfumes and cosmetic products, along with a new foamer – Velvet, from its partner Albea. Velvet offers a creamier and richer foam than has previously been possible, opening up possibilities for other products and markets.
In addition to the packed show floor, Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging London 2018 will play host to an exciting array of interactive content, with plenty of advice and thought leadership specifically targeted at retail professionals.
The free-to-attend seminar programme will be delivered across three stages with dedicated forums for the retail, beauty, drinks, luxury, tech and aerosols.
The Retail Forum welcomes major UK retailers including John Lewis and Graze. Kicking the sessions off is Anthony Graze, CEO at Graze, who will offer his expertise on increasing the standout appeal of products in competitive markets, during his talk ‘The Re-Brand’. Caroline James, Head of Logistics at Feel Unique will then join John Lewis’ Chris May to discuss how brands can design packaging for the world of e-commerce.
Mark Quaradeghini, Co-Founder of Butterfly Twists and Luke Grob, Ex-Product & Innovation Director at HelloFresh UK, will join The Retail Forum line up as they take part in an interactive panel session focussing on the value premium packaging can bring to a business. Regina Maiseviciute Haydon, Global Food & Drink Analyst at Mintel, will then tackle ‘the challenge of sustainability for the retail industry’, whilst Kelly Dawson, Head of Strategy at Kinneir Dufort will look at how brands can successfully gain Millennial and Gen Z loyalty by enhancing the consumer experience.
Packaging Innovations London will also host the first ever plastic-free aisle in the UK. Developed in partnership with A Plastic Planet, who helped Ekoplaza deliver the same concept in Holland, the show will showcase the cutting-edge packaging that is helping reduce unnecessary plastic packaging.
